Sonic cd soundtrack cd6/22/2023 Sonic CD will now restart with the Japanese soundtrack. On a game controller, this can be done using both the left directional stick and the D-Pad.Įnter here by pressing either Enter or A, depending on your controls. ![]() On the keyboard, this can be done by pressing the right arrow key. You’ll see some text underneath the logo that says “GAME START”. Once you’re at the Sonic CD title screen, press any button. In order to change the soundtrack in Anniversary Mode, the first thing you’ll want to do is start up the game. In this guide, I’ll be showing you how to switch between the two. I’ve seen a lot of people wanting to use the game’s Japanese OST instead. The Sonic Origins version of Sonic CD defaults to using the US version of the game’s soundtrack (at least in North America). If I'm whistling a tune from Sonic CD, it's more likely to be one from the JP/EU soundtrack due to the more catchy and varied nature of the songs (I think that the songs of the US soundtrack are a bit too generic at times and are therefore not as good as the 90s sounding music of the JP/EU Soundtrack).Īs for my favourite song, it would have to be Quartz Quadrant Present. This guide will show you how to change the music in Sonic CD to the game’s Japanese OST While the US soundtrack does have some good tracks like Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness Zones, I didn't find much of it memorable. Also am I the only one who thinks that Collision Chaos US doesn't fit the level at all (it sounds like they thought they were making a Palmtree Panic Zone II or something (or even that they had composed the theme for the scrapped level with the rainbow ruins))? True, the Past versions are the same for both soundtracks (another complaint of mine, as they could have at least bothered trying to change it into something that fits with the rest of the zone's themes) but I'm referring to the other tracks in the zones like Stardust Speedway and Quartz Quadrant, where they sound nothing like their present counterparts. Some of the tracks in the US soundtrack sound nothing like the previously established tracks for the zones. The consistency in the songs is a lot more obvious in the JP / EU soundtrack. Also the final boss theme is way too similar to the regular boss theme in the US version. ![]() The US version messed up the boss fight theme by making it overly creepy when it should have been catchy yet still be slightly menacing. Personally I prefer the JP/EU soundtrack for a few reasons: Overall, I enjoy the Japanese soundtrack more both as a standalone piece and within the context of the game, and aside from Sonic Boom I can barely remember anything from the US soundtrack. Londons Data Discs label published the three-disc Sonic CD vinyl soundtrack in September of 2019, containing the remastered music score from the Japanese. On the other hand, the Japanese soundtrack's boss theme fits these outlandish contraptions perfectly, with it's wacky vocals and upbeat tune. Listening to something that sounds straight out of a horror game while Eggman is piloting some of the most ludicrous and non-threatening contraptions in the entire series just feels completely wrong to me. In particular, the boss theme, while a nice track in it's own right, is probably one of the least fitting music tracks I've ever heard in a game. Personally, I think this approach is not only less imaginative and memorable, but also a poor fit for what is ultimately an over-the-top and silly experience. The US soundtrack, on the other hand, is very dark and attempts to be atmospheric. It's just as alien as the Little Planet itself, and for me, it sells the entire concept of the game, and turns a game that I otherwise consider quite flawed into something I greatly enjoy. It's weird, wacky, extremely creative and a ton of fun to listen to. Sonic CD is a weird, wacky, off-brand approach to Sonic, completely unlike the Genesis games or indeed any other game in the series in it's tone and art direction, and the music really emphasizes that. I feel it's not only a better soundtrack in it's own right, but also a much better fit for the game itself. ![]() There are no past variations either and sometimes the over-reliance on bongo drums gets on my nerves.īasically I like the US version more for listening, but the JP version more for playing. But the US version's future/present themes sound nothing like each other. It's really cool in the JP version going from present to past to future and seeing how the variations in music changes, though it's still basically the same song. I hate how the good future themes don't sound happy at all. It may fit the gameplay better but it makes the game itself feel like a slog. ![]() I find myself listening to the US version on its own though more than actually playing the game with it. It also fits the slower exploration of CD's gameplay more than the JP version which still goes off the notion of Sonic going fast. I appreciate the more chill, atmospheric feel of the US tracks, and some of the Present themes I actually like better than the JP versions.
